I used to be proud of my triple-cleansing skincare routine. That is, until I went to a Versed event where dermatologist Dr. Joshua Zeichner explained that that’s the quickest way to strip your skin and throw off your PH balance. So, when I was introduced to the Versed Antioxidant Cleanser that promised to get rid of makeup, dirt, gunk, and even mascara in one step, you better believe I was skeptical.

I go hard on the mascara, and my favorite is tubing mascara, which is water-resistant so is way more smudge-proof (ALTHOUGH IT STILL SMUDGES…), and in the past I’ve found that one cleanser just doesn’t cut it. I was set on using a makeup remover spray first to wet down my eyelashes, an AHA/BHA cleanser to exfoliate nightly, and finally, a gentle cream cleanser that scooped up any extra debris. I realize typing it all out now that it does sound a little excessive…

Although I can’t speak to it working on waterproof mascara because I don’t wear it (way too harsh on my precious lashes), it did easily and efficiently obliterate my water-resistant tubing mascara.

  • Versed the Purist Antioxidant Cleanser

Before I get into what I thought of this cleanser, let’s get into the specs a little. First, I love that this cleanser is unscented. That means that there are no potentially irritating and unnecessary fragrances lingering in the formula. Second, I love the blue color WHICH IS ALL-NATURAL, people. It’s thanks in part due to the inclusion of spirodela extract (similar to spirulina) and blueberry extracts. It is a gentle, soap-free cleansing gel that’s perfect for combination, balanced, and oily skin.

Because it’s PH-balanced, the brand touts that it won’t leave your skin begging for moisture the second after you use it. A superfruit complex works to condition the skin as it cleanses, while aloe leaf juice helps soothe and hydrate the skin, so it never feels overly dry or stripped after use.

It all sounds great, but can it actually remove all of my makeup in one simple step? As instructed, I applied a dime-size amount of product to my face, and although it didn’t really lather into a foam, it did spread evenly across my entire face without that annoying tugging feeling. I gently pressed it into my mascara-clad eyelashes and within seconds all of the black from my eyes was melting off of my face. After a few splashes of water, I was seriously shocked to see how all of my makeup came off of my face, even in the pesky areas like around the nose where foundation loves to gather.

After using this cleanser just once, I can finally pare down my exhaustive triple-cleanse routine. As a heavy mascara girl, I can whole heartedly recommend it.

  • Versed Sweet Relief Overnight Face Barrier Balm

Another new Versed product drop at Target is the overnight barrier balm. Listen up because this is so much more than a moisturizer. In fact, you shouldn’t layer it with moisturizer at all—that’s how powerful it is. This is an intensive, overnight treatment for dry, chapped, and irritated skin. It’s more of a slugging treatment, and since it’s made with nutrient-dense bacuri and kokum seed butters, it creates a heavy but breathable layer that will lock in moisture without clogging pores.

Winter is just around the corner and this is perfect for you if your skin totally changes and chaps thanks to the weather. In the meantime, I’ve been using it on the backs of my hands overnight to wake up to them looking and feeling so much healthier.
