How to Add Instagram Highlights Without Followers Seeing Your Story

Generally, the only way to add images and videos to your Instagram Highlights is to post them on your Story for 24 hours. Fortunately, there are two different ways to add images and videos to your Instagram Highlights without your followers seeing your Story posts.

1. Block Your Story From All Your Instagram Followers

A fool-proof way of adding your favorite memories to your Instagram Highlights without spamming is to block your Story from your follower list. While this isn’t ideal, especially if you have a huge following, it's guaranteed to work.

Here’s how to do this:

  • If you have a public Instagram account, begin by switching your Instagram profile to private. To do so, head to your profile by tapping your profile picture in the bottom-right corner of the screen. Now, tap the three horizontal lines in the top-right corner of the screen and go to Settings and privacy and then Account privacy. Tap the toggle to switch your account to private.
  • Now, go back to the Settings and privacy page and tap Hide story and live, which you’ll find under the Who can see your content header.
  • Tap Hide story and live and manually select each follower to hide your Instagram Story from followers. Close
  • Once you’ve hidden your Story from your followers, upload the images and videos you’d like to add to your Highlights. We recommend posting them all at once to avoid having to repeat this tedious process.
  • Now, open your Instagram Story and tap the Highlight icon at the bottom right of your screen. You can either add your Stories to an existing Highlight by tapping one of them or create a new Highlight by tapping New. If you decide to create a new Highlight to showcase your memories to the world, type in a name for the highlight, choose a cover and tap Add. Finally, tap Done. Close
  • Unfortunately, we’re not done yet. You’ll have to wait 24 hours for the stories to be added to your Highlights. Once the Stories have been added to your Instagram Highlights, you may switch your Instagram account back to public and enable your followers to see your Story once again.

    2. Post Your Story and Delete It Immediately

Although the method above will never fail you, hiding your Story from your followers is a time-consuming task. If you’d like to add your memories to your Instagram Highlights without spamming your Story or blocking your entire following, we have an alternate method you can use.

You can post a Story and then delete it immediately by following these steps:

  • Post an image or video to your Instagram Story. Then delete your Instagram Story by tapping the More button and selecting Delete.
  • Repeat this process for the content you’d like to upload to your Instagram Highlights.
  • Now, wait 24 hours.
  • Go to your Instagram profile, tap the three-lined icon, and tap Your activity.
  • Tap Recently deleted and then tap on the Story you’d like to upload to your Instagram Highlights.
  • Tap on the three dots in the bottom right corner of the screen and tap Restore.
  • Now, go to your Instagram profile and tap the three-line icon again. Go to Archive, choose the Story you’d like to upload to your Highlights, and simply tap the Highlight icon in the bottom right corner of your screen.
  • Close

The Days of Spamming Your Followers Are Long Gone

Unfortunately, Instagram has yet to launch an official method that allows you to post content to your Instagram Highlights without spamming your follower list.

Luckily, with the two methods mentioned above, you can continue to share your favorite moments with your followers. The only catch is that you’ll have to wait 24 hours, regardless of the method you decide to use.
